Research Examples of Music Videos (Omarion - Icebox)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7PDWufjUZQ&feature=fvstWe noticed in this video and others of this genre there is a convention of urban street setting, therefore we will aim to choose a similar setting so as to meet the expectations of the target audience for hip hop music. This music video has alot of meaning 'Icebox where my heart used to beat....'. That is exactly how Omarion feels about the woman he loves, but their relationship is not working out. As it is linked to ice, ice could represent many things such as cold, frozen etc. It does not have a warm vibe so the viewers could actually feel how he is feeling, cold.

The video is very dark and dull, there is no light. It seems cold and it very well links to the name of the song 'Icebox.

The hip hop expectations in this music video is excellent. We can see Omarion dancing with a group of men in the background. Like art but expressing how cold he feels without her love. He also dances in a hip way such as body popping, representing his cold heart beating as if it is slowing down. Also the clock in the video shows how time is going so fast and he has little time to live. Overall, the whole video has a connotation of cold ice, love that's almost on the brink of breaking and the ice that is there to represent it...

T.I. - Got Your Back ft. Keri Hilson [Official Video] Analysis

This video is very good. There is narrative which tells a story. It is about the artist T.I, who recently came out of prison. He made a song for the women he loves, the women who took care of everything, his house, their children etc. He sings about how she made his life change and that he always 'got her back'.

The music video is very clever, it shows a man acting out how hard life was for T.I, when he was in prison. it showed flash backs of how life was before with the women he loves.

Now that he is out, he is extremely happy. There are a lot of camera shots showing how happy he is. Extreme closeups of his smiling face etc. I could tell that a steady camera was being used meaning that it was attached to the body of a camera man, which caused it to spin around. It showed T.I in one side of the background and as it spun around, it showed Keri Hilson in the over side singing the catchy chorus.  I found that very clever and extremley exciting. It was up to beat with the music because it's loud and fast.

Overall, the whole music video was very good. I learned what type of camera was being used, and also the various editing which was being shown, from the prison room, to the outside, the big house and cars etc. It also represents his freedom too also with the lyrics 'I got your back' which shows that he is here now and won't go away.

This could help me for my music video with my group. The steady camera idea could be really effective, so i will be sure to keep that in mind and hopefully use it...

Practical Task (own music chosen) Young Muney-Bedrock

We are given the opportunity to create our own music video for fun so we can get used it for the real thing..

This is the video that we as a whole discussed and decided to do. We thought that it would be funny and as there are different people in the original people, singing their parts in turns, we done the same. It really was effective and everyone who watched it enjoyed it rather well.

I sang a part in the video and i enjoyed it. I also done the camera work and editing. everyone in the whole group was being generous and helping out. That's why i feel we finished the task in a day. we worked well together and i am very happy.

Evaluation:
There were parts in the video that was really tricky such as the beginning bit when Michael's lip-syncing didn't go well. the rest was alright. My teacher enjoyed the camera shots because it was very unique for example the mirror reflection of Zakiyya in the toilets. it went really well.

Overall, me and my group enjoyed it and i found it really easy compared to the first task because we all knew the song and the lyrics itself.

I truly cannot wait for the real video....

CD Cover Analysis

The Genre i am doing is Pop:

The cd cover that i had to analyse was 'Michael Jackson - Bad'.  Michael Jackson is the King of Pop and is a world -wide favourite of every individual. the genre of his music was a mixture. There is pop, rock, slow, upbeat, techno music which was seen.

The front cover picture was in simple colours, red, black and white. Michaels picture was of him in a Black and Silver armour suit. he looked very 'Bad' which was the name of his album. did i mention that it was also in red, bold writing.

I can tell it's pop because of the posture, as it was very powerful unlike RnB where 'bling bling'' etc is only seen.

There was posters of him inside aswell where fans could hang him up in the bedroom or wherever. As it is a pop thing it is essential whereas with RnB, it only has pictures where it is serious.

Genre Research

The genre we chose was Pop. this was because all the other groups in our media class were doing RnB as it is the most dominant genre, however as a group we decided to do something different. We also chose Pop to differentiate from the rest of the group and also as some people do like pop and nowadays people are listening to it more often.

There are mainly many channels based on the genre RnB. We want to change it now. When people listen to different kinds of music they end up likeing it so it is good for a change....

So overall, i and my group hope that this particular genre works out, fingers crossed!!!!

Sweding Task - Britney Spears Evaluation

During this task, we has to join classed with the other class. it was very hard and complicated. First we had to storyboard different bits of the entire 2minute video clip and then we has to make sure that every storyboard was right. This was hard because we had to draw it clearly and correctly so that it would be absolutely clear for others when the film. It has to look exactly like the actual video. I think this was the hardest task so far.

We all then had to join groups. I had Nasima and Zakiyya. The bit we had to do was the locker bit. I was the one lipsyncing to Britney Spears 'Hit Me Baby, One More Time'. It was very easy to lipsync afterall, everyone knows the lyrics to that awful song, ahahaha.

That was the strengths however there wre also weaknessess:
The pictures of the storyboard were very unclear, we had to sqint  but we got there in the end. we had to do different trasintions, camera views for example, close up, extreme closeups etc.

Overall, it went well. We managed to get everything done so that was great.
